unknown base type undefined

I have just created a HUD toggle on/off field pair, yes/no toggle with formula to hide icons.  I have created a load of them so know what to do.  But this error is popping up for a new one I have created.

'unknown base type undefined'

What does this indicate?

    I deleted the two fields involved - a Yes/No and formula and recreated them with the same script.  Works fine now.  Must have been some glitch.
