Ninox auto-installs incompatible updates to older macOS systems, making data unreachable

I have never heard of any software company doing this, but Ninox apparently allows automatic updates to install on Mac operating systems that are not compatible with those updates, rendering the app useless, and permanently preventing the user from accessing any of their data again (since the Apple App Store does not not allow downgrading to previous versions, and Ninox does not offer them).

This can cause customers to permanently lose all their data without any warning. All other software I have used, does not allow updates to install on incompatible operating systems; and if you try to install an update manually, it gives you an error message, letting you know that the update cannot be installed, because it is incompatible with your current operating system.

In my case, I have a 2016 MacBook Pro, which cannot be updated past macOS Monterey 12.7.6. I had Ninox for Mac (stored locally on my Mac) syncing via iCloud with Ninox for iPhone on my iPhone 17 Pro (iOS 26.0.1). Everything was working perfectly, then suddenly on Sep. 28, 2025, I opened Ninox on my Mac and got a blank screen. Ninox Support told me that the reason everything disappeared from my Mac, was that the latest automatic update had installed, and it was not compatible with macOS Monterey; so all my data was gone, and even if I had a backup, I could not restore it, since the version of Ninox that just automatically updated on my Mac is not compatible with the Mac’s OS. The email from Ninox Support ended with, “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.” I responded to the email from Ninox Support, with some questions about what my options were, but I never received a reply back.

Fortunately for me, all my databases are still on my iPhone (Ninox for iPhone), so I am hoping that I can subscribe to the Web-based version of Ninox for $13/month, sync the iPhone databases to that (via iCloud?), and be able to access them via the Web on my Mac again.

My question: On one hand, the Ninox website says that macOS Monterey can still use the Ninox Cloud based version, because it can use the Ninox web interface directly from any browser on your Monterey machine. But then it says, “While the Ninox desktop app runs locally, it connects to the cloud, and the web interface provides the same cloud-based experience without needing a separate download.”

So if that last statement is true (that you STILL need the Ninox for Mac desktop app, even though you are just using the Ninox Could based app), then the previous statement on the Ninox site, saying, "macOS Monterey can still use the Ninox Cloud based version” is wrong (because the current desktop app is not compatible with macOS Monterey). Which statement is correct? Very confusing. Can someone please clarify this for me? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

David
