I'm taking a guess her but I am assuming you are talking about a count of given records dispaly (after your search) in a table view...

if so you can easily do this (ie in this example I want to count the number of jobs in my veiw)

in this case ther are 8867 records

so to do this I click on the title at the top of this col (in my case 'Job Bag' )

then select count

is that what you want? if not please come back

it is also possible to count up all the child records/ file attachements etc for a given parent too.

But thats another story
