Mass data update linked records

Hi i have a field with static information of a item number , i also added a new field  linked to item number table 

i tried to use mass update feature to copy the static information to the linked record field , it seemed to be working and the preview shows the information is there , however ther is no visual data in the linked record field , not in the field and not when clicking on the record (it would show a linked empty record)

Any idea?
