Selecting Location for Local DB on Mac

Hello...

New to ninox, looking pretty awesome so far.

I want to store my database locally on my Mac. I don't want to use iCloud. But I want to choose where the database gets stored (ultimately it will be a shared folder).  I found the database buried deep in ~/Library, but I need to store it somewhere else.

Is this possible from within ninox? Would an alias do the trick?

Thanks!

May I ask why a shared folder but not iCloud? Did you want to share the DB with another user on another computer on a local network?

Ninox currently doesn't offer the ability to store the DB beside the default location. I guess you can share the default location folder.

The app version of the DB is not really setup for multi user, thus the free price.

Thanks for the good explanation. I just want to share the database between two computers on my local network. I use iCloud minimally because I don't really trust any cloud, and I don't use iCloud drive which I'm guess is what ninox needs.

It might not be worth the effort, but I could try using aliases (or possibly symbolic links) to the database folder on the local machine (or from the local machine, I haven't thought it through yet).

      Thanks again

Also you should be aware that if you do use two computers you won’t be able to modify the DB on both computers. Ninox sets one to be the “admin” so that is the only one that can edit.

There are steps to change “admin” to another computer. But that has to be done manually. Not difficult but still an extra step.

Hmmmm... good to know, probably not an issue, but nice not to have a surprise. Thanks!

    Hello,

Yes, you can store your Ninox database in a different location on your Mac using a symbolic link.  Ninox doesn't let you choose the storage location from within the app, you can move your database to your desired folder and create a symbolic link to the original location. This allows Ninox to access the database as if it were still in its default location.

How do I proceed specifically? Is the location at /Users/xxxxx/Library/Containers/de.ninoxdb.ninox-mac.Ninox/Data/Library? Thank you.
