How to import local database from external HDD?

My Mac failed, but the hard drive is OK, so I've got it in a USB HDD dock. How can I best import my local databases from that drive into my new Mac?

I am using Mac Desktop Ninox, not Ninox Cloud.

Thank you for your help!

You should email tech support at support@ninox.com

If you are referring to importing the local files into the Ninox app to all you have to do is select "Import archive" and select the USB HDD dock. It will probably be under "Locations" when Finder pops up.

Sean, do you mean that this procedure will work with local databases? I hadn't saved the local databases as archives before the Mac died, so I don't see any *.ninox files in the local database location (/Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/Users/tim/Library/Containers/de.ninoxdb.ninox-mac.Ninox/Data/Documents/data).

Tim, sorry I thought you had archives. I think you will have to boot from your USB dock and open Ninox from there and then save the files to your new drive. It would be worth checking with support if you can't do that.

After contacting Ninox support, it does look like the only approach is to boot from the external drive and create archives which can then be imported after re-booting from the internal drive.

Unfortunately, the iMac was running High Sierra, because it could no longer install MacOS updates (iMac 2011), and I can't boot my M1 MacBook on High Sierra, so no go.

The local databases were only for exploration of features, etc., so not critical. I'll probably try just copying some files over and see if I can get the new Ninox to recognize/open them.

So, I had access to an Intel-based MacBook and was able to boot that from my old iMac drive in a USB dock. Ran Ninox there to create the archives, then plugged it back into the new MacBook to import the archives into Ninox there. So, all good.

Thank you, Sean, for the tip!

I was going to suggest a friend or library, but I figured you would work that out. Glad you got it moved. :)
