Hi John,

I had been using Numbers to keep track of repairs on my truck when I was an owner/operator. A requirement was to be able to embed a PDF copy of a repair invoice and be able to click on a cell to open the PDF. I used an Apple script to do that, but one of their updates broke it and I started looking for an alternative. My preference was to find a database app for my MacBook and I tried out Ninox. I had worked with dBase IV back in the late 80's and early 90's and was comfortable coding with it. That was on DOS of course, but I also did some work with Access on Windows for my employer at that time.

I started driving a semi-tractor-trailer with my wife in the late 90's and have been driving long haul in the US, except for a year and a half when I drove a concrete mixer, up to present though my wife doesn't drive with me anymore. We bought our own truck in 2004 and kept it running until the end of 2019 when we found out it needed a second engine rebuild.

I was really happy to find Ninox because its ability to store and open files like PDFs and I could do it on my MacBook and iPhone. I was developing my truck service database when I started looking into solutions on this forum. Working with Ninox rekindled my interest in coding and I downloaded the SoloLearn app and finished their JavaScript, C, C++, HTML, Java, C#, PHP, jQuery, SQL, Ruby, Python Core, CSS and Swift 4 courses. I've also gone through courses at freeCodeCamp where I have finished the coursework for Responsive Web Design, JavaScript Algorithms and Data Structures and Front End Development Libraries, but I haven't done the projects.

My current Ninox project is a forum scraper database that I have mentioned here on the forum. The scraping functionality is dead until the Ninox developers enable the non API specific functionality of the http() function again. If/when that is fixed, I will continue working on the project and post it in the Webinar team. I hope this wasn't more than you asked for .

I'm glad you and others have joined in to help with aswering questions. It seems we have lost some contributors lately.

Hi John,

I used Filemaker (since version 1.0, early 90's) for almost everything. Schools, medicine, finance, personal activities, etc.

I was very happy when I found Ninox and saw that it would automatically sync between Mac, iPad and iPhone.
So I transferred all my files to Ninox, relatively easily I can say, in a few hours.

Now, among other things, I have taken over the management of a building (utilities, purchases, maintenance, receipts) and I am trying to run it on Ninox.

It is nice that a bot brought this thread back up for us.

I dabbled with FM back in v5. I am not a coder or have any formal DB training. I started with Ninox to create a sport league DB and have found the forums a way to keep learning new things.

so I started a coder at 12 for fun (1983).  I made a career out of it when I was 15 in the family electronics business.  I was also interested in electronics and I did microcontroller programming.  In the 90s I used Omnis, a database that worked on a network on Mac and PC.  I developed a lot of programs in Deplhi and a few with WinDev.  I discovered Ninox almost 2 years ago.  I was looking for an intermediary between Excel and Access.  I was looking for a different solution and Ninox seemed by far the easiest to implement and a sarisfactory effort/result ratio.  as I was missing some features, I tried to create them using html and JavaScript which I discovered at the same time.  

I use Ninox to manage all the data for a psychotherapy training center.  I was trained by this same company and have also been a Psychotherapist for 3 years.
