SPAM!!

The SPAM posts are just HORRIBLE~ On the Latest Activity page, I just kept scrolling/"Loading More", etc, .... many pages. And the problem is once you've opened a post to read ... when you return back to where you were .... you have to start from the beginning again. So imagine, you've 'loaded' 5x .... and to just resume where you left off, ....

There's got to be a solution to this! I can think of a couple ways but .... I'll be quiet because I'm sure they are not ones you'd consider ;-)

I agree. Someone must really have a grudge against Ninox. I find it hard to believe that Ninox hasn't at least set up one or two honeypot fields in their account setup form. Do spambots really upload profile images?? I doubt it.

Hi Sean, true ... they need to. It probably has nothing to do with Ninox itself, I think it's more the fact that they found a place where they can get away with it.  They need to be 'zapped'.

I know why I couldn't add an image on yesterdays' post ... because I wasn't 'logged in' thankfully I noticed and copied my post to paste again once I was logged in. However, I didn't attempt to attach the image after I was logged in.

So, now I'm going to attempt to use the new dynamic fields on my 'testing' dBase. I do have a question but if it's something you can't answer just off the 'top of your head' don't worry about it ... you've really helped me out a lot already :-)

Of course, I know when/why you'd use the regular Choice fields vs. Multi-select fields ... so I image the same concept applies with the Dynamic Choice and Multi-select fields? I guess I should work with them first before thinking of more questions. Thanks!!! :-) Karen

Rightly or wrongly, I have to give the Ninox team credit for implementing something as simple as a honeypot trap on their forms to stop spambots. So from there I can only assume some human interaction is required whether the intent is malicious or not. Having said all that, the content still seems to be pretty mindless.

Yes, they are similar. The ability to dynamically fill Choice fields and Multiple choice fields has been a feature request for a relatively long time now. It is a powerful and welcomed improvement. So far, the implementation lags on speed a little bit compared to the original Choice field. Even using display/hide to conditionally display pick lists is faster.

Ah, I get what you are saying ... very interesting though (re: intent) ... and how it's handled. I hate the captchas where you have to select all the cars or all the boats ... over/over again. Anyway.

I was one of those people too (for this). I'm tinkering around with the Single Choice field so far, so good (although, lol - I haven't finished the entire thing yet but I am really glad they exist now!!!). I just 'discovered' you have to code/color and icon -- because after all ... there isn't an icon field AND a color field 'inside' a dynamic choice field, ha!

In total ... I believe there were three new things? Dynamic choice fields/multi-select. There's "Binding" (which I need to look into, embarrassed to say, not exactly sure about :-/ ) and there was one other thing (something to do with the Tabs?) k

Sean, really cool! --> dynamic choice/multichoice fields. :-)

Karen, I agree and found it easy to use. I would like to know more about the Binding. One option shows "Global variable in memory", but I don't know how you can access the value. You can't just refer to it by the field name.

So I disabused myself of the notion that someone has a grudge against Ninox, well at least as far as the spam goes ;-)  I did a search on dr mama kevin and that particular spam is the bane of other sites as well.

    Well, that's good!

Thanks for the response re: Binding ... I looked it up ... and get the general idea of 'what' but as you said not "how" to access the value, I tried though. I had checked in the Beta team databases for any guidance ... but there's nothing on these although I do realize they are new. Just some basic info would be greatly appreciated.

The Tabs new feature: Before Show (fx) and After Hide (fx) ... I have to fiddle around with that one as well, again, I think I understand the 'general' intent of them but I'm not exactly sure about f(x)s?

Last but not least since I have worked with both of these now -> (color fx, worked just fine)....

Regarding Icons (in Dynamic Choice/multi-choice), I was successful to add the usual icons (happy, smile, etc.) ... but I want more choices ... so I went to emojipedia and got more (official) icon names there, but they did not work.

    For example, I tried:

icon("Brown Heart") ... nope, I tried just "Brown Heart" ... nope.

(It's not a new icon either, in fact it is available in MAC/iOS/Windows emoji keyboards.)

In this case, you get a green circle with a √ (which appears to be the 'default').

Only a limited number of icons work (in Ninox) although every year they (emojipedia = apple, google, etc.) add new ones.

I also tried using the unicode #s ... but I may have been using an incorrect formula although I don't believe I did ... and that didn't work either.

Birger had said awhile back in a post when people were asking about ability to add more emojis (or even better, images) ... and that unicode and paste emoji should work. In some instances, you can paste them in places but that isn't always the places where you want them to be.

I really, really wish at least the icon choices (pop-up) could be up-dated. I would have thought I could add any of the current 'official' emojis in a formula -- whether in "the formula field" or added to the formula in another field, such as these dynamic choice fields which you can add just very basic ones ....

It may seem 'trite' but some of us work using a lot of different visuals even if it is a "database" vs website desgin But some people (clients) prefer or even need 'representative visuals' to help them use the database/app itself.

It would be really perfect :-)

Hi Mel, very true~ I'm sure we all participate in a number of Forums/'Community' platforms of some sort or another ... and while nothing is 100% ... it isn't like this is!

A lot of Forums use Discourse but there are others that are good, open-source options that @Ninox could self-host. It's difficult to have a vibrant community with all the garbage/SPAM posts.

I'm now more concerned about my business data. I have transferred all my business onto the cloud on various platforms instead of using in house servers and to be honest by and large this has been both a brilliant and most liberating move. Ninox is hosting my production system and is the only site that I use that is being attacked. My concern is if these idiots (not Ninox!) gain access to that data it will really have the potential to effect or screw my business. This invasion of the forum has been going on ever since I joined up and I am starting to get quite worried. Frankly, I believe the support team at Ninox must act now aas an absolute priority effort to ensure the door is closed to this type of invasion or create a new forum in some better form that is more protected and then invite all paid up members to join by some secure means.

This is not a rant or moan - far from it - From a practical point of view the Forum will become completey unusable if this continues.

What is a moan is the type font size when trying to input messages here. I was informed by support ages ago that this would be fixed! it is almost impossible to see as the font is only about 6pt and for those of us who no longer have 20/20 vision it is very difficult. PLEASE FIX IT !!!

    cheers

Hi Mel, I hear you ... I'm in that 'vision' club too ;-) but I did notice that (as I'm typing this -->) And your concerns are completely legitimate! (although we SHOULD all rant loudly re: forum platform ... ).

One would hope and would imagine there's a lot more security/safeguards in place regarding the servers which hold our data as well as their own data. It certainly would be benficial for them to address this primarily just to reassure customers (us!) and then of course, there's the forum --- which is used by us and is popular.

I understand they are a 'global' company but I do think there are a few things they could improve upon e.g. communication, 'Product roadmaps' and especially communication WITH the Beta team/new versions.

They are however, very responsive when you contact them and other tools (webinars, etc.) although not everybody's questions or concerns rise to the level of sending a contact email nor can everybody always join a webinar in their native language,in their time zone at a set time. I need to check because I may be missing something but it would be nice to have the webinars available on-demand once they have presented them. I really do like the platform and have been quite satisfied re: evolution and performance. I think I've used Ninox now for 3-4 years ... starting with the desktop and iOS apps and now for the past 2 yrs, the cloud.

And now my friend, I have strained my eyesight enough on this itsy, bitsy teeny font (:-)), and so I wish you a great day! Karen

Mel, I'm fairly confident they don't use their own servers for hosting customer databases. It's been discussed on the both the English and German forums.

It is ridiculously easy to open an account and start posting on the forum. Come one, come all because it's a cattle call...

There was no email verification that I was subjected to when I opened a bogus account a little while ago. What kind of business policy is that? Hey Ninox team, you can delete aceventuraninoxdetective@gmail.com.

It's been stated over and over by users on the forum that the webinars are not convenient for everyone and the excruciatingly long YouTube videos put up by Nioxus do not suit everyone. The forum is on autopilot and pretty much all they've done is renew the TinyMCE license and throw some new CSS at it.

That lack of initiative has made the fact that they have specifically made the http() function nonfunctional for ninox.com burn. Ninox, if you aren't interested improving the forum then why don't you let someone who is. I've spent quite a bit of time developing my forum app using your product and it is more capable than what you've put up. That's saying something since you are far better coders than I am. In addition, you've had offers from users of this forum to help moderate and you refuse that as well.

Response to my email to support from last night

    Dear Mel,

    Thank you your e-mail.
Our developers are working on a better solution to avoid such spam posts and we have already done some steps towards a good spam blocking.

The data of your business (your databases and user management) have (technically) nothing to do with our forum page and the posts there.
Your data are safely stored and protected on a different server than our forum website.

Additionally to that the spammers can not infiltrate any of our website, apart from releasing their posts. As soon as they do and they will be recognised as spammers they (and their posts) will be deleted immediately in order not bother any of our true and appreciated users.

In the near future we will improve the registration process further, so that we also filter out more of the bots and automatisms during the registration as a Ninox user.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding.

    Kind regards/
    Mit freundlichen Grüßen

    Jörg Mathews
