Change a field's background color: is this possible?

Hi all.

Suppose a table with two fields:  A and B.

If field B is not empty, then change the background color of field A to green.

Is this possible?  If so, could you please explain (clearly) how to do it?

Thanks!

This is not possible. You can change the backgound color of formula fields only.

But why did you guys take away the possibillity to get the whole field colored, not like now when its only marking the text with a backgruound color, witch is a stupid restriction for creative work, @Birger H??

    Thanks for feedback.
In child tables I dont see this option, are you sure Mel?

    Jan

Yes as you can see in screen shot - the child table has colour field in it

as stated you can only set colots against formula fields/various controls & fields where you can set conditional formatting on the headers.

Normal text/number input field - do not have colour attributes.

But if you want to say set a field to have colour the add a formula field (point it to your input) and add color to the formula!

    Thanks for reply, Mel.
But the color is not like I wanted it. It only climb to the text. I want it to color the whole backround in the field, are you following me?

    Hi Jan

    Ninox has a few quirks

on formulas you can add colour to text pert and background on the full cell width

on things like combo boxes it will only aloow it to set the background color to the width of the text

I don't know if ther are CSS cheats etc that can be applied but others nmay be able to advise on this

    Thanks.
Thats why I really dont understand Ninox way to think, why is it not up to the user to decide with way to color a field? Why not both solutions? Or at least as it was in the beginning, the whole field?

    I agree

All other software I have used has allowed even the text/number input fields to be coloured.

I like to have my cost price fillds in a light grey but to get around this I have to add a formula field (that i can colour) to look at the cost price field.

also if you look at m,y production status file image the odd widths of colour does not look great?

all seems a little odd to me - however small issues that they are - Ninox is a great system otherwise!

    Hello

Is this "changing the background color of a field" resolved in Ninox or is it still unheard?

I am new to Ninox and just starting to learn. My client wants to see all the active client First Name in green background color. I can't find out how to do it. That's a text field and I don't want to sue a formula field to point towards the First Name field.

You still can not modify the style of text/number fields either as a default or through code.

I don't see why they haven't added the ability to set the style of a text/number field manually.

Seems like it would make things more complicated to be able to set style through code.

If your clients want to see something a particular way then the use of dashboards and formula fields will give you the ability to give your clients what you want.

Do you want to change the color of the field in Table view or Form view?

The owner wants to see all the client names in green background that have been converted by the sales person from “Prospect” to “Active” in the Table view.

Currently I have a choice box field named “Status” made visible in the Table view that has the text background in green colour for all “Active” clients. But that’s only text background and not the cell background in the Table.

Can we do a green background for cell without using a formula field?

That’s true. Theee are such basic UX things that should be there. Now see my business owner has this specific requirement that’s very basic and I can’t fulfil it for him.

he is using ZOHO books at the moment and I convinced him to try Ninox as then I could build a tailor made CRM specific to his requirements and now I can’t fulfil his requirement. He might just want to build his crm in ZOHO and I will have to discard Ninox

I understand what you are being asked to do. I'm pointing you in a direction that it can be done. The user doesn't need to see the raw tables. The user just needs to be presented with the data in a way that makes sense to them. By using dashboards you can present data to the user in ways that make sense to them.

Is it more work on your end? Probably, but in the end the user gets what they want.

       Yes,

      1. Click on the column head for the field you want to highlight.
      2. Select Add conditional formatting
      3. Select f(x) in the Option field.
      4. I just used Status = 2 in the Formula field.
      5. Select your colors.

Thank you for your quick response and help as always. has advised a solution and I am going to try out when I reach home.

I understand what you mean and I am up for that. Work is no problem as I enjoy writing business applications/software. It’s just that I was thinking if there was a quick fix for a small solution.
