Finding a specific entry in a many-to-many relationship
HI,
I have three tables:
- PERSON - a repository of historical figures
- TIMELINE - a log of historical events
- LINK - a table that permits PERSON and TIMELINE to be joined in a many-to-many relationship.
There are dozens of TIMELINE entries for each PERSON entry and many PERSON entries are represented in the same TIMELINE entry. However not all TIMELINE entries are created equal. Dates of birth and death, for instance, are important in the PERSON table because they trigger certain calculations - current age, age at time of death, etc.
Is there a way to call a specific date out of the mass of TIMELINE entries that are associated with a particular PERSON entry, in order to put that data point to use in a Formula field?
Could you, for example, have a choice field in the LINK table called EVENT_TYPE with “Birth” and “Death” as choices, and then have a formula that calls only the LINK table entry with “Birth” or “Death” selected in the EVENT_TYPE choice field?
Thanks in advance.
