Link to locally stored video file

I have built an asset manager for all my footages since several decades. One field contains a picture, generated from the video. As that particular picture is embedded, I can just click on it to view it, which is fine. The video file, however, can't for obvious reasons be embedded, so I would like to have a field with a clickable link to the video file, which is stored on an external drive.

Today I use a workaround on my Macbook, where I use a text field with the link in text format, such as "/Volumes/T7/Drone/2020/2020-06-14/DJI_0127.MP4". In order to open the file I mark the text, rightclick and choose "Services - Open". The video file then open up in the dedicated app, for example QuickTime.

So, the function is there, but it feels a bit complicated and I would rather have a clipable link, working like a URL. The question is though if it's possible with today's app or if it can be seen as a future request.

I don't have the solution but I had approached the same type of subject:

I experimented with the "Open a network stream" command in the application VLC.

For a server or an external disk VLC recognizes very well the paths of the type "file:///Volumes/..."

But not with the "openURL" command in Ninox ;-(

    Freebox :

    file:///Volumes/disque dur/Musiques/Sélections/Ambiance Vidéo/01 - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).mp4

    TimeCapsule :

    file:///Volumes/Sauvegarde/Exemple/01 - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).mp4

    USB key :

    file:///Volumes/PLETLISTS/Vidéo/01 - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).mp4

Only one positive case in Ninox

    Internal disk:

    file:///Volumes/DDEric/Library/WebServer/Documents/Médiathèque/Vidéo/Elton John/Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)/01 - Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).mp4

I don't know if it's only a story of permissions on directory access?

Because with VLC, everything is allowed...

That's very interesting Eric. Thank you for all this info. I will make some more experiments as soon as I'm able to. Seems that there are several workarounds, but I wish that Ninox will launch a solution with one click to open local files.
