Mutually exclusive choices

Hello forum, I have an extremely basic question. Imagine a list where each item should be assigned one and only one value. In my experience this ought to be the use case for a "radio button", but I cannot for my life figure out how to make the choices mutually exclusive, no matter what I choose, combo box, radio buttons or switch.

Can you provide us with an example?

Are you talking about regular choice fields or dynamic choice fields?

I'm not sure what you mean with this sentence. Is an "item" a choice on this? Or is a "value" a choice in the list?

Fred Sorry for being unclear. Let's say I want to make a list of various cars. In this list there would be a choice of different car makes. I want each individual car to have one value, as "Volvo", "Saab", "Citroën" etc. When I make a new record, I only want only the choice "Volvo" OR "Saab" OR "Citroën", not "Volvo" AND "Saab" AND "Citroën".

My understanding of a radio button related to databases is that the choices are mutually exclusive, just like when you press a button on your trusty old FM radio: You can't listen to Station Classical and Station Jazz at the same time. (OK, maybe you could, but then the radio probably is broken.)

Fred Just to make clear my level of knowledge: I don't (yet) know the difference between regular choice fields and dynamic choice fields. The documentation isn't very helpful on my level.

Create a table for your Car brands (Citoën,Volvo, Saab,...) (Table with one text field)

Now on your Cars form, make a link-to field and set this field to "show field as" COMBOBOX.

Now you have a dropdown-list where you can select only one brand, specific for that car.

RoSoft_Steven Thank you for your answer, which no doubt will come in handy later. However, I just found out that the "choice" field is what I'm looking for, not the "multiple choice" that I was using. @Fred led me in  the right direction. Sorry for being such a dumb fart. Originally I needed a quick-and-dirty solution to document the progress of several texts in various stages of completion. As that project now is nearly finished, I can devote a bit more time to learn the intricacies of Ninox. Thanks again.
