conditional IS available for dates. It's in German, but I hope it helps:

You can see that "Wunschdatum" is a date field. Clicking on the column header, you get the config popup. "Bedingte Formatierung..." at the bottom is "conditional formatting...".

When you click on it, you get this:

You have to press "Neue Regel" = "new rule" to create a new rule:

And using f(x) you can do anything.
