linking tables only using a numeric field

When linking tables if the "One" table only has a numeric field when it appears in the "Many" table it shows up as "un-named". However, if I add a text field/s they will show up in the listing on the "Many" table but the numeric field still does not appear. This suggests that either

- You can only display text for linked tables OR

- There is someway to define the type of field that appears in the "Many" form. OR

- I know even less than I thought I did

Anyway, I'd appreciate any pointers as to the source of my problem.

Thanks

    I see what you mean. When yu test, does it happen when the related number field is not named "Number"?

    Apologies, but I not clear on what your asking. In my case the label attached to the field was "Box" but I don't think that's what you meant. If I repeat the activity but instead of using a numeric field I use a Text field and insert a number then the number appears as expected in the "One" form.

    In my quick test, I was able to see what you describe. Unfortunately, I do not know how to resolve the situation. Maybe someone else can help.

    Maybe I don't understand your question fully, but it seems that this could work:

    - in the "One" table, while in administration mode, select the field showing the link to the "Many" table;

    - tap on the wrench;

    - open "More options";

    - set the display to the number field in the linked table.

    Hope this helps.

    It works for me if I choose Show as Number in the many table. Otherwise I also get un-named.

    Maybe I was not clear enough. At the last step, one should be looking at a panel labeled "Reference from ... to ... (N : 1). After activating the "More options" part of the panel, one should put the name of the number field from the other table in the "Show as" box. The reason why this is necessary for a number field, and not for a text field, is an abyssal mystery.

    Solved from the above.

    Thanks to everyone who responded. Very much appreciated.

    Trying to end with a useful summary.

    When creating a relation, Ninox adds "Reference" fields to the formular view of both tables. The way to tailor the appearance of those fields is explained, tersely as usual, in the Part III of the tutorial. There, one will find that what is displayed in the reference field in the "Many" table is the result of the function entered in the "Show as" box, which is somewhat hidden behind "More options" in the formatting panel of that field.

    What is not explained is that, in the box is left empty, as it is after first creating the relation, then Ninox will display the concatenation of the TEXT fields of the related table. Which explains why a text field seems to be "automatically" displayed, but not a number field.

    Mystery cleared?

    Thanks for the excellent summary.
